CAROLINE AKT – NYS Licensed Real Estate Broker
A bit about myself: I was born and raised in Jersey City and spent my weekends/summers in upstate NY in a pretty special place called Cahoonzie Club, a 1500 acre preserve. There we had a cozy red cabin and endless adventures, I couldn’t wait to get into the car to come upstate where life was beautiful. Having worked in Manhattan in the investment banking sector, life was not so beautiful and despite trying to make it work by commuting it wasn’t where I wanted to be. Eventually I made the move to become a full-time resident of the Sullivan Catskills and have lived happily in this idyllic place for 24 years.
I’ve always had a love of homes/architecture and enjoy sketching out the ones I’d like to live in, they’re always small, cozy, rustic and of course have beautiful landscaping. Owning an excavation business, I have the luxury of doing just that— turning my sketches into reality.
To date I’ve done eight projects and currently working on the 9th, seven homes and my office. These projects include managing, coordinating and overseeing the entire process from start to finish. I love to see a project begin with vacant land and end with a beautiful, warm and inviting home. Managing an award winning excavation business for 20 years, I’ve worked with building departments, architects, engineers, and the most amazing team of skilled contractors that has resulted in the end product of a quality home that I can be proud of. I’ve also volunteered my time on the Lumberland Zoning Board of Appeals which as helped me navigate town code and assist my clients on many levels. I’ve overseen and managed subdivisions from start to finish.
As a good friend said to me, “All that you’ve done has led you here,” and she’s right. Having obtained my broker’s license, building and designing my own office and homes is just where I belong.
All of this and my constant exploration of this stunning area I call home, is what I bring to the table for my clients in a unique and qualified way. I can help make the building process less intimidating and encourage someone to build their dream home. In addition, I can bring my knowledge of building/designing to help buyer’s/seller’s with ideas for renovations or prepping a home to be put on the market.
